The Ottoman Empire’s loss of the First World War, the occupation of many cities of Anatolia after the Armistice signed afterwards; 19 May is the date when the “Turkish War of Independence” was started by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in the face of the enslavement of the Turks. In those days when everyone lost hope and when help and protection were expected from other states and nations; May 19 is a date when hope, excitement and the fire of courage reappear in Anatolian lands.
