History


Established on July 20, 1982, with Decree Law No. 41 as the Faculty of Science and Literature, the Faculty commenced its educational activities in the academic year 1991-1992. The name of the Faculty was changed to the Faculty of Science by the announcement published in the Official Gazette dated June 30, 2010, and numbered 27627. Since that date, it has continued its education with the departments of Computer Science, Biology, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. All departments of the Faculty of Science, which contain fundamental sciences essential for all branches of science, accept students every year with 100% capacity. In addition to undergraduate education, the Faculty offers Master’s and Doctoral programs in Computer Science, Biology, Biotechnology, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Data Science within our University’s Institute of Science. Within the Faculty of Science, there are 2 conference halls, 19 classrooms, and a total of 36 laboratories for research and student use, 4 of which are equipped with computer hardware. With its active academic staff constantly monitoring developments in basic science, the Faculty conducts national and international research and projects in fields such as data engineering, intelligent systems, decision support systems, botany, general biology, molecular biology, zoology, atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, crystallography, statistical physics, applied statistics, data mining, theoretical statistics, risk analysis, operations research, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, mathematical logic, algebra and number theory, geometry, and applied mathematics. The departments have agreements with various universities in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Romania, and Greece under the ERASMUS program for student and faculty mobility.
