15:00–17:30: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül Özateşler Ülkücan – Gender Analysis

Absract: This presentation aims to reveal how we are constructed as gendered beings and how gender manifests itself as a power system. The process of socialization including our bodily recognition, ways of nurturing and social positioning is constitutive in this system. We adapt to gender expectations through our social interactions with family, school, peer groups and media and are placed into gendered stereotypes. This emplacement is embraced by certain hierarchies and inequalities. Gender analysis aims at recognition and analysis of meanings, ways of perceptions, social power relations and status built through sex and sexuality.
